Rand Paul’s Election Status

Rand Paul was last elected  in 2016 by 1 million votes to 800,000, winning the election with a 57.3% majority. He did have the incumbent advantage, and the win was pretty clear, with polls saying that the election was a safe red zone.

Rand has officially announced he’s running for re-election and the polls are looking similar to the 2016 election, with polling numbers giving him a safe advantage over the democrat front-runner.

Below is a graph of campaign finance receipts from the top runners for Paul’s senate seat. Looking at the total money raised, its clear to see Rand Paul has support from everywhere, not just Kentucky.

Major Issues

Patriot Act Filibuster — On May 20, 2015 Rand Paul conducted an 11 hour filibuster on the renewal of the Patriot Act, where Rand Paul proposed to amend the act rather than simply casting an up or down vote on it.

NSA Controversy — In June 2013, Rand Paul considered a class action lawsuit against the NSA over the large scale surveillance program that was gathering data on American Citizens.

Anti Obamacare Rally — Paul led for calls to the senate to defund Obamacare amid fiscal battles in both chambers over funding for Obamacare.

Rand often goes against the grain, and is often at the front of the fight of reducing the size of the federal government. Rand believes in minimal gun control, legalization of marijuana, reducing government subsidies to private companies, reducing taxes, implementing term limits, and is a civil rights/liberties advocate.
